We haven’t been out that way in a couple of years. Last time we were there, I did the Giant Canyon Swing.

I was driving westbound on that stretch (upper deck) in a 3/4 ton Chevy 4x4 enroute to Aspen when a chunk of rock fell directly in front of us, before our eyes, and onto the road. I swerved, we missed the rock, and I didn’t shit my pants. It was a good day.
Gorgeous Interstate, but beware of falling boulders.

Colorado is definitely the best of the Mountain West states. Anyone wanting to live in the Mountain West should move to Colorado.

I saw your post about heading out that way prior to the weekend. My wife is a CO native (I’ve been out here 17 years now) and asked if she had been out there. She hasn’t. While we may not do any hardcore wheeling, I would like to go out there this summer.

Yeah have regrettably not had the chance to do this in my miata but maybe this summer. We did it once in my old mazda3 I think though, it really is beautiful.

Tabeguache/Bangs Canyon was some mediumish wheeling. I wouldn’t hesitate to take almost anything with AWD out to the McInnis Canyon preservation area, especially Rattlesnake Arch trailhead.

Was just there. Drove through during sunrise. It was amazing.
